Personality : Fate Lingod is an extremely unenthusiastic person, and as such lives his life avoiding work. This is partly due to seeking paths of least resistance, as he often chooses to do things he would otherwise not do if people nag him enough. His plans on life reflect this aspect of his personality, as he plans to be an average person. In his free time he typically takes naps, watches clouds, eat, and flirts which most of the time ends up with him getting slapped across the face. When put into a situation where he potentially needs to put effort into something, he attempts to try to find a way to avoid it such as retreating from a battle or by pretending to be preoccupied with something else. He is fully aware of this side of his personality. But when he gets serious he can be dangerous.
Despite his cowardly tendencies, Fate is extremely intelligent. One of his superiors disguised an IQ test as a series of puzzles to see how smart Fate really was. In doing so, he found Fate to have an IQ of over 200.
History : Fate used to be awesome basketball player, but once everyone found out that he was a Coordinator he was kicked off the team. His best friend Kai, another player on the team, also quick and gave him the idea that he should join the army. They both joined ZAFT at the beginning of the first war in Cosmic Era 71. At the end of the war due to his great heroics and battle tactics Fate was nicknamed 'the Crimson Lightning, but he also lost his best friend Kai who really was the reason he was fighting in the war in the first place. As a rememberance of him, Fate wears Kai's goggles around his neck no matter where he may be. That's also when his attitude changed into what it is today.
Once the second war broke out Fate felt that he had to keep Kai's dream alive. He fought for that reason along and quickly increased in rank. People feared the crimson mobile suit and its pilot. During his time on earth he met a girl named Star Leonhart who knocked Fate on the right path, telling him that he shouldn't fight for someone else's dreams... But to fight for your own dreams. He took those words to heart and at the end of the war he left ZAFT and join the ORB with Star.
Now at the age of 16, he fights for what he believes in, which is to protect Star, but he still has that carefree, lazy attitude.
